GCN Racing News Show: The top 11 defining moments of 2023

2023 has been a fantastic year for fans of pro cycling!

From unbelievable action in Grand Tour stages to close-fought battles between rivals across races and disciplines, we've really been spoilt for choice when narrowing down the best bits for this list.

Dan Lloyd has given it his best shot, though, and ranked the 11 most memorable and defining moments of the entire year, and he's picked some incredible race action and stories from the season.

Including the drama at Strade Bianche, where Demi Vollering and Lotte Kopecky put their teammate status to one side at SD Worx and went head-to-head in an epic sprint to the line, Dan rattles through the cycling calendar's most memorable points. He highlights another key moment in the women's cycling season, when Alison Jackson took a historic win in Paris-Roubaix Femmes after spending all day's early break and still holding on for the win thanks to her powerful sprint.

There's a moment of magic at the men's Giro d'Italia, where Geraint Thomas rolled back the years to lead-out former teammate Mark Cavendish to a pulsating stage win on the final day, and plenty of Grand Tour highlights from Jumbo-Visma's triumph in all three of the men's three-week races.

Dan also highlights an incredible day of racing on the penultimate day of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, when Vollering obliterated the field to take her first Grand Tour success and end Annemiek van Vleuten's reign.

There's also a look back at Tadej Pogačar's incredible Spring Classics campaign and plenty more, along with iconic moments from Matej Mohorič, Sepp Kuss, and Mathieu van der Poel's win at the UCI Road World Championships in Glasgow, when even a late crash couldn't stop the Dutch rider from soloing into rainbow stripes.
