Mark Cavendish

Arguably considered as the best men’s sprinter of all time, Mark Cavendish is professional cyclist on the Astana Qazaqstan team. A former world champion on the track, Cavendish has become the most successful sprinter of the modern era with a record equalling 34 Tour de France stage wins. He has also won 16 stages in the Giro d’Italia and three stages in the Vuelta a España. His palmares stretches to over 160 career wins on the road with his greatest one-day successes coming in 2009 with victory in Milan-San Remo, and in 2011 when he became the road world champion. Cavendish turned professional on the road in 2007 with T-Mobile before bursting through the following season with four Tour de Frances stage wins.

The British rider has represented a number of the most high profile teams in the WorldTour, including Team Sky, Dimension Data, QuickStep and Bahrain McLaren. At the end of the 2022 season it looked as though Cavendish’s career on the road was over but he joined QuickStep on an initial one-year deal and subsequently won four stages and the Green jersey at the Tour de France.
