This week's World of Cycling episode is out now on GCN+
After 271km of intense, action-packed racing around Glasgow, Scotland, it was Mathieu van der Poel who claimed what he admitted may be the biggest victory of his career on Sunday. Van der Poel won the UCI World Championships road race and managed to beat out incredible competition from the likes of Wout van Aert (Belgium) and Tadej Pogačar (Slovenia), who finished second and third, respectively.
This was no ordinary world championship course, as Glasgow delivered a criterium-style race that saw reigning champion Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) defeated before a thrilling finale amongst the heavyweights.
In our latest episode of World of Cycling, GCN’s hot-shot team of analysts Dan Lloyd, Conor Dunne and Max Stedman reflect on an incredible race and question whether it was the hardest Worlds in history.
Also on the agenda are the upcoming time trials and the women’s road race, which offer more exciting racing as the week goes on. We look at whether the likes of Evenepoel can beat Filippo Ganna (Italy), as well as assess the showdown between SD Worx trade teammates – but opposing forces on Sunday – Lotte Kopecky (Belgium) and Demi Vollering (Netherlands).
Finally, Conor gives us an insight into his latest GCN+ film, Angliru, with La Vuelta a España on the horizon.
