Attention is turning to the Tour de France, but first, in this week’s World of Cycling episode, Dan Lloyd pays tribute to Bahrain Victorious’ Gino Mäder, who died following a crash during stage 5 of the Tour de Suisse. Dan reflects on the talented bike rider who will be fondly remembered for his charitable endeavours and friendly nature.
GCN’s stat guru Cillian Kelly sums up the recent racing results in his regular Stat Attack, and we hear from Israel-Premier Tech sports director Sam Bewley on how Derek Gee could progress after his stellar performances at the Giro d’Italia.
Back in the World of Cycling studio, Dan is joined by pro rider Max Stedman and former British cyclo-cross champion Ian Field to study the form of those riders looking to win the yellow jersey in July.
Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) decimated the opposition at the Critérium du Dauphiné, but Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) will no doubt be hungry for revenge after last year’s defeat. As for the French hopes, they look to be dwindling after David Gaudu’s disappointing recent performances have left Groupama-FDJ with big question marks heading into their home Grand Tour.
