The Tour de Suisse is one of the more mountainous races on the pro calendar, reaching altitudes of almost 2700m. This year's race is also home hero Fabian Cancellara's last Tour de Suisse. Although the race is too hilly for Cancellara to challenge in the overall, he should challenge in the prologue and time trial stages. There are some days for the sprinters too – we're especially looking to see how Fernando Gaviria goes.

What about the overall contenders, who are all here to sharpen their form ahead of the Tour? Tejay van Garderen will want to stake his claim to team BMC's leadership at the Tour and could take his first overall stage race victory in Europe. Miguel Angel Lopez of Astana could surprise, as could Ion Izagirre, who is a key support rider for Valverde and Quintana at Movistar.
