The Team Sprint Explained – GCN's Guide To Track Cycling

Even as huge cycling fans, the Olympics are one of the few chances that we get to see track cycling on our TV screens. With that in mind, we thought it might help to explain the rules, nuances and records behind each discipline. First up, the Team Sprint.

The team sprint is probably one of the most difficult events on the velodrome – especially if you're the second or third rider in line. Like the 400m race it requires riders to be sprinters with a bit of endurance to hold their speed all the way to the line.

Olympic team sprint legends include Sir Chris Hoy, and this year race favourites will include Australia, Germany, Great Britain and France.
