The new trainer simplifies indoor training with no need for a cassette to be fitted to the trainer
The two biggest names in indoor cycling, Zwift and Wahoo, have joined forces to launch the Wahoo Kickr Core Zwift One – a combination of the existing Wahoo Kickr Core and the virtual shifting Zwift Cog.
It builds on the foundation of the existing Wahoo Kickr Core indoor trainer, which offers riders access to smart indoor training with accurate power data at a budget-friendly price point.
The new version of this trainer now comes with the Zwift Cog, which allows indoor training compatibility for bikes with 8-speed gearing and above. Shifting is taken care of by a virtual shifting remote rather than by physical gears like on the original Kickr Core.

The Wahoo Kickr Core Zwift One replaces the traditional freehub with the Zwift Cog and a virtual shifter
The use of the Zwift Cog makes it easier to swap between bikes, which is good news for riders who own multiple bikes or share a trainer with someone whose bike has different compatibilities. This design removes the need to swap out cassettes to match each bike as well as saving the rider the cost of having to use a second cassette on the trainer.
Much like the Zwift Hub One that first showcased the Zwift Cog when it launched, the Wahoo Kickr Core Zwift One uses a virtual shifting remote that simulates a full complement of 24-gears. This can be mounted to the bars of any bike, bringing the versatility of a geared setup to the simplicity of a single-cog trainer.
This is not the first time we have seen Wahoo and Zwift join forces. After a legal battle was settled outside of court between both brands last year, based around the release of the Zwift Hub trainer, it appears that they have struck up a close partnership.
This was first seen when Wahoo's own virtual cycling platform RGT closed, with users being moved over to Zwift, which was then followed by Wahoo trainers being offered as a bundle with a year's subscription to Zwift included.

For those riders that already own a Wahoo Kickr Core, an upgrade kit will be made available from 7 February, which will allow the freehub body to be replaced with the Zwift Cog. For those not so sure about virtual shifting, the original Kickr Core will still be available from Wahoo.
