The Lazer Z1 KinetiCore weighs in at 220g

Lazer has unveiled its new iteration of the popular Z1 road helmet with KinetiCore technology and the company claims that the lid weighs less than any other rotational impact protection helmet on the market.

Designed to be used in hot weather, the new Z1 comes in at just 220g in a size medium.

Lazer's Z1 will sit alongside its Vento KinetiCore aero helmet as the top-of-the-range models.

Out with MIPS, in with KinetiCore

The helmet's biggest change, though, is the switch from MIPS to Lazer's very own KinetiCore technology.

Inspired by crumple zones used in cars, the safety technology has built-in rotational-impact protection.

KinetiCore uses built-in foam blocks that crumple under impact and absorb the energy, protecting the rider in the process.

Lazer boasts that its safety technology, while offering enhanced protection, actually uses less overall material and thus reduces the helmet's weight.

This means that KinetiCore aids the Z1's ventilation capabilities, sheds weight from the helmet and uses fewer plastics in construction.

Lazer also proudly claim that the new Z1 is a five-star Virginia Tech protection-rated lid.

Lazer make bold lightweight claim

While the helmet does seem remarkably light, Lazer's bold claim comes into question when lining it up alongside Kask's Valegro model.

The helmet also features rotational-impact technology and weighs in at 180g in size small.

Nonetheless, the Z1 looks featherlight, helped by alterations to the safety technology that have shaved off grams. Lazer has also used lightweight stitched straps made from antibacterial and recycled material.

'Best in class' ventilation

Built for those days in the searing heat, the Z1 boasts "best in class" levels of ventilation, according to Lazer.

The new helmet features strategically placed vents, inclined bridges and a floating headband to allow for optimum cooling while not impacting the aerodynamic design.

Another upgrade is the addition of Lazer's Advanced RollSys system which allows the fit of the helmet to be controlled by a thumbwheel on the rear of the helmet.

The Lazer Z1 KinetiCore, available in seven different shades, is priced at a RRP of €249,99.
