Both pedals share the same stack height as the non-power versions of the pedal

French cycling brand Look has released two new power meter pedals that share the shape of the standard KEO Blade and X-Track pedals.

Both the road (KEO Blade) and the off-road (X-Track) keep the same Q-factor and stack height as the non-power meter versions.

Typically with power meter pedals, the profile of the pedal has to increase to accommodate the electronics and battery. However, Look has managed to nestle all the power meter workings inside a regular-sized pedal.

The benefit of this is that changing between regular and power pedals is a simple task that removes the need to adjust the bike's saddle height to compensate for the increased pedal stack.

Both pedals are claimed to hit the industry benchmark in power meter accuracy of +/-1%. The pedals also feature active temperature compensation, allowing for reliable data across a ride without the need to perform a zero offset calibration when conditions change.

Alex Lavaud, Global Product Manager at Look, said: “With the all-new X-Track Power and Keo Blade Power, our design team aimed to set the benchmark for accurate power measurement: the lightest pedals, with a standard Q-factor and stack height, easy to install, and simple to use.

“This is the smartest way to train and progress for performance-focused road, gravel, and XC riders. Look has also invested in ensuring riders benefit from increased pedal durability and ease of repair.”

Much like the other power meter pedals on the market, Look offers both road and off-road power pedals in a single or dual-sided configuration. As has become standard with power pedals, the single-sided unit makes use of a power meter in the left pedal and doubles this figure to give an estimated total power output. For the dual-sided pedals, riders will be able to see total power as well as power balance.

The pedals run off an internal rechargeable battery that has a claimed life of 60 hours with simultaneous charging for the dual-sided pedals via a magnetic connector that spans both pedals.

Talking about the benefits of the standard stack height of the pedals, Stéphane Tempier, performance and development manager of the Rockrider XC Racing Team said: “This makes the plug-and-play installation of Look’s pedals a major advantage as we can switch pedals on the start line without altering riders' positions.

“Our riders also train on different bike types, including road, XC and enduro, and some choose to keep their MTB pedals and shoes regardless of the bike used. With a single power meter, they can easily switch between bikes while maintaining a consistent reference for their training data, performance monitoring and fatigue levels.”
