The new shoe is claimed to be the lightest in the Vento collection

Fizik has announced an update to its popular Vento Powerstrap shoe, using the brand's second generation of Aeroweave material. The new shoe is claimed to be the brand's lightest shoe in the Vento range, coming in at 184 grams per shoe, although that's measured without a footbed.

Upon its release, Fizik said: “Aeroweave is a straight-up racing shoe: the lightest and most breathable in the range, built with a high-tenacity net-like structure coupled with our stiffest carbon outsole.”

The second-generation Aeroweave upper looks to maximise cooling with an open-vented design. The update from the initial Aeroweave design has allowed Fizik to bring the overall weight of the shoe down, making it the lightest shoe in the Vento range.

Giving an in-depth explanation behind the new Aeroweave fabric Fizik says: “The pursuit of reducing weight and increasing ventilation while maintaining support and protection led our designers and engineers to develop an entirely new material: Aeroweave.

"Now in its second generation, Aeroweave woven fabric interlaces nylon fibres with filaments of thermoplastic polymers for an even lighter shoe that doesn’t lose its original tenacity, providing the strength and support required in competition.”

The new Vento Powerstrap also credits its lightweight credentials with a new outsole, the R3, which is produced using a new carbon fibre lay-up.

Fizik says it has been able to shave grams without compromising on stiffness. "With an index of 10, the shoe provides maximum power transfer," says the brand.

The new sole also features two vents above the cleat area for internal air channelling, in order to enhance temperature regulation. This is, Fizik says, a shoe that's meant to be ridden fast.

"The R3 outsole offers recessed cleat positioning to optimize pedalling efficiency and reduce knee compression, and is ideally suited to riders who prefer more aggressive, aero positions."

Pricing and availability

The Vento Powerstrap Aeroweave is available from your nearest Fizik stockist and will retail for €350 / £334.99 / $379.99.

Fizik has made the new shoe in two colour choices, a classic white design as well as a more colourful ‘Coral’ colourway for those who like to make a statement.
