The new shoe uses a PU mesh upper to shed weight and improve ventilation

Fizik has added a new shoe to its performance Vento collection. It’s called the Proxy and has been designed for off-road use.

The new shoe is aimed at the pointy end of competitive riding with the use of a mesh upper and carbon fibre sole to keep weight to a minimum. The Proxy makes use of a newly-redesigned X3 fibre composite outsole that offers more stiffness for efficient power transfer to the pedals. The sole has a rating of 8 out of 10 on Fizik’s stiffness index, blending the needs both on and off the bike in the case of cyclo-cross.

Considering all types of off-road cycling, the Proxy incorporates two front studs which provide grip whilst running with the bike during cyclo-cross races, and a fully rubberised sole is designed to give better grip and traction whilst off the bike. The large treaded pattern along the perimeter of the shoe keeps plenty of clearance around the cleat.

The Proxy uses a single Li2 Boa dial for closure with textile lace guides as opposed to the more traditional plastic guides, aimed at minimising hotspots on the foot. A single dial has been incorporated for riders to adjust the fit of the shoe on the fly more easily.

In a bid to reduce weight and increase ventilation, the upper section of the shoe uses a translucent PU laminated mesh material. The design of the mesh is also claimed to be tear-proof, yet another nod to the shoe's rugged off-road ambitions.

Specifications and pricing

The Proxy is available in a choice of three colours, black, white and coral/purple and features:

  • X3 fibre composite outsole with rubber thread, stiffness index 8 (out of 10)
  • Weight: 326g
