Bosch e-bike systems introduced to Taiwan on Tern bikes

Tern bikes are now available for purchase in Taiwan, making them the first brand to sell a Bosch-equipped e-bike in the country. Starting off with only two of the brand’s models, the Tern Vektron and Quick Haul will be available via independent bike shops around the nation.

In a press release issued by the bicycle manufacturer, Josh Hon, Tern Team Captain, said: “Taiwan is the global epicentre for quality bicycles and the country has come so far in promoting bikes for recreation and transport.

“With a large portion of Tern Team Members calling Taiwan home, it was easy for us to raise our hands when Bosch suggested entering the Taiwan market. Our bikes also make the most sense for dense cities like Taipei where a compact e-bike is easier to ride and store.”

The move does seem strategically well thought-out from the brand with Taiwan increasingly embracing the uptake of cycling for transportation. This has been backed by investment in cycle lanes and other cycling infrastructure and the result has been a cultural shift to how the bicycle is viewed. This newfound demand for urban mobility solutions fits with Tern’s philosophy.

The Quickhaul is a more traditional 'long tail' cargo bike

Tern has selected the Vekton and Quick Haul to introduce to the Taiwanese market first based on the solutions they provide. In the brand's press release, it stated that “the award-winning Vektron folding e-bike stands out with its superior ride and unmatched storage convenience. The bike can be easily transported in cars, trains, or buses, for exploring Taiwan's scenic landscapes beyond the city. And it’s easily stashed in closets or coat rooms for storage.

“The Quick Haul is a mid-tail cargo bike designed to tackle daily needs, whether that’s a school drop-off or the weekly shop. While brawny enough to safely ferry a passenger or handle 150kg of load, the Quick Haul is still smaller than a standard city bike. The bike also boasts Tern's innovative Vertical Parking feature for simplifying storage in tight spaces—simply roll the bike into an elevator and stow it away in an apartment nook.”

With storage often a concern for potential cycle users having the option of a folding bike opens up a bicycle as a more practical option, especially for those having to store a bike within a small apartment.

The Vektron uses Bosch’s performance line motor system to provide up to 65Nm of assistance while the Quick Haul uses Bosch’s Active line system offering a maximum of 50Nm of assistance to the rider.
