This week, in the world of cycling, we learnt that team sponsor announcements aren’t what they used to be. Team Sunweb launched their new bike sponsorship in a very different way. Check out their social media to watch it!

We learnt that Alejandro Valverde is the best rider in the World. At least he was on Sunday in Innsbruck. The 38-year-old converted 2 World Championship silver medals and 4 bronze into Gold, to become the oldest world champion since Joop Zoetemelk in 1985. He’ll now wear the coveted rainbow bands for the next 12 months, taking over from Peter Sagan, who ceremoniously handed the jersey to Valverde on the podium on Sunday.

The CPA elections. And it was a landslide victory for Gianni Bugno, who will serve a third successive term as president of the rider’s union. He received 379 votes vs David Millar’s 96 - although the Spanish, French and Italian votes were submitted by a representative from each nation, so perhaps it was actually closer than it appears.

The UCI also announced a number of reforms, including a much welcome minimum wage for pro women. The aim is for 5 teams to make up the top tier of the World Tour next year and that by 2023, that will be up to 15, with the minimum wage equal to that of what the Pro Continental tier of men's cycling has set as a minimum which is around 30,000 euros.
