Firstly HEXO, the world’s first custom-made 3D printed bike helmet has been launched. Which goes to show just where we’ve got to in the crazy world of tech. The claimed exact fit of the helmet is achieved by scanning your head with an iPad and the app creates a 30,000 point 3d mesh, which can then be printed or grown is a more technical term into a helmet with an accuracy of a fraction of a millimetre. Hexo is comprised of plenty of hexagonal cells that create a honeycomb-like structure that apparently when strain is applied to them, they buckle and bend and don’t compress as a foam helmet does. The force of the impact, therefore, should be reduced.

Should all racing be on the same bikes? While in Japan, Jon went to watch some Japanese Keirin Racing and it gave him an idea. It is hugely popular in Japan and is similar to the keirin event you see in the Olympics. An event for sprinters, it involves riding behind a pace bike at that builds pace from 16 to 30mph followed by a full-bore sprint. The key difference from the Olympic event is that riders have to compete on broadly the same equipment. This includes bikes, clothing, helmets, wheels.
