This week in the world of cycling we learned that wearing glasses when you ride is probably a good idea. This is pro cyclist Danilo Celano. Any idea what body part?

His eye, it was his eye. Nasty. We also learnt this week that bikes have feelings. This was one of the yellow public hire bikes that Si was so rude about last week.

And We also learned this week that the Hour Record is still safe. Not Bradley Wiggins’, but William Rowe’s 132 year old Penny Farthing Record.

Mark Beaumont missed out by just 250 metres, but did set a new British Record so the pain, and there was a lot of pain, wasn’t completely wasted. Anyway, Full video on that coming up on Sunday, including Si’s miserable attempt.

Back in the late 19th century when the Penny Farthing was in its heyday, there was not too much conflict out on the roads, but many people would have you believe we’re waging war these days. And one question that’s often posed is whether cyclists should be banned from riding on busy, fast roads, or anything in fact that is perceived as being dangerous, for our own safety.

And is there a case that we should ban ourselves in order to reduce conflict with other road users?

We appreciate that this could get more tense than a G7 summit but let’s take a look before we go nuclear. Cyclists are already banned from some roads, motorways, autoroutes, etc, but what about removing existing permission to ride?
