Do you have advice for riding hairpin corners? Let us know in the comments 👇
If you ride in the mountains you will need to know how to deal with hairpins, you can easily gain or lose time.
Matt covers the approach to the bend, as well as how to cut the apex or take the longer route.
Descending hairpin corners is a common question we are asked for help on. When approaching the corner you should be looking ahead, ideally your hands should be on the drops of the handlebars as this is more stable. Ideally you have done all your breaking before you are in the bend. If you can cut the apex, traffic dependant, that is best!
Keep looking where you want to go, the exit point of the hairpin.
If you do have to brake in the hairpin, don't grab the brakes! Be as gentle as possible. Also, make sure your inside leg has the crank in the 12 o'clock position.
