There seems to be more talk than ever at the Tour this year about how it’s changed. Domination by one big team and fans getting in the way of the racing, tech getting in the way of the racing. Or that the route’s too easy, or that it’s also too hard. What about the tech? A lot of people saying that science is changing the tour. Yeah, and then power meters. Without a doubt, they have changed the way the Tour is raced. In a bygone era, if your rivals attacked on a mountain, you’d follow - why wouldn’t you? You can’t afford to let them gap you. But with modern knowledge, you know that they can’t sustain that effort and that the power you can do is the power you can do.

Racing news and we’re going to start with La Course, despite it being a week ago now because it was one of the best race of the year! It took place in Annecy last Tuesday, went over the Col de Romme and the Col de la Colombiere, which is where the cream of the crop, rose to the top! They did indeed, the who’s who of women’s cycling at the moment really - Annemiek Van Vleuten, fresh, or not so fresh, have just one day to recover after winning the Giro Rosa 10 day race, and Anna Van Der Breggen, who really was fresh having skipped the Giro to do a MTB World Cup. It was a nailbiter, Van Vleuten somehow found the strength to overhaul Van Der Breggen in the last 100 metres. A stark contrast to the men's race which finished a few hours after.
