This Week Jon is out in Australia for the Tour Down under in search of the latest World Tour Bike Tech… So stay tuned for our 2019 World tour bikes guide which is coming soon. In other news, UK Retailer Halfords has unveiled the world’s first connected smart bike with access to Amazon Alexa. It’s called the Cybic and the head of Halfords is quoted as saying “We’ve seen innovations in alternative commuting go from strength to strength and after electric bikes, we predict that the next big trend for commuters will be smart bikes.”

This look at future tech got us thinking, so here are 4 new high tech and very exciting materials that could have a big impact on cycling in the future. This is a patented lightweight fabric made from 100% stainless steel mesh with a solar selective coating. The fabric is excellent at absorbing heat in the form of UV Light and is very good at conducting and dispersing that heat throughout the entire material. It is said to offer a huge amount of insulation for very low bulk - so you can imagine why applications in winter cycling kit could be very exciting. The makers reckon it has 25% more insulation than a traditional jacket! It’s flexible too. Hang on though. If it uses sunlight to get warm, is it really cold in the dark? Apparently not, when the sun goes down it can use your own body heat to insulate you. But it is able to thermoregulate to stop you overheating and dissipate excess heat. This isn’t science fiction either. Back in 2016, a general purpose outdoor jacket utilising this tech met its funding target on IndieGoGo.

What new material do you think could change cycling? Do you know of any we haven't mentioned? Let us know in the comments below.👇
