Vincenzo Nibali. 2010 Vuelta winner Vincenzo Nibali crashed in this year's Tour de France, breaking a vertebra on Alpe d’Huez during Stage 12. He will be here primarily to prepare for the World Championships, but a stage win in the last week is a definite possibility and a welcome one when you consider that apart from Milano-Sanremo, he is winless this season. That was quite a big win, admittedly, but the only season in which he has won fewer races is 2011!
Peter Sagan. Peter Sagan is on our list because he’s Peter Sagan - I mean, when does he not animate a race? And even if he isn’t winning, he just brings a huge amount of attention, energy and fun. But, I actually think he is here for good reason, to race, to get results and finish the season and his time in the World Champions jersey in style! That’s assuming he doesn’t win the World Championships, again!
The Yates brothers. They return to this year’s La Vuelta having had another fantastic season, and whilst Adam didn’t quite replicate Simon’s Giro when he lined up at Le Tour in July, you cannot take away the results he has achieved throughout the rest of the season. No doubt they will be flamboyant in their attacks and constantly look to put others under pressure, they certainly have plenty of climbing and a few TT kms to help their bid on the way to Madrid.
