The team will have three helmets at their disposal from Giro's current product range
Visma-Lease a Bike has announced today that they will be making the switch to Giro helmets on a three-year deal with the brand that replaces Lazer. The team will have three helmets to choose from with the Aries, Spherical and Eclipse Spherical road helmets, and the Aerohead MIPS time trial helmet.
Head of Performance for Visma-Lease a Bike, Mathieu Heijboer has said, "We are constantly looking within the team for opportunities to develop and take performance to the next level. We are convinced that we have found a good partner in Giro to help us do this. They are extremely motivated and the synergy between our team and Giro is strong. Giro listens to our needs and wants and puts them into practice. We'll see the results in 2024.”
Paul Martens, Head Of Rider Apparel at Team Visma-Lease a Bike, said: “Before reaching an agreement, we identified Giro as a brand with a unique history of innovation and partnership with top teams and athletes.”
“Together, we have already spent time in the wind tunnel with two of our most important riders, Jonas Vingegaard and Wout Van Aert, and Giro’s depth of knowledge and commitment to cutting-edge design is certain to further our mutual quest to advance rider performance.”
It looks for the time being that Visma-Lease a Bike will be using the existing helmet range from Giro, however, a partnership with a team like this would be the perfect development ground for a new helmet at some point within the three-year deal.
So far in 2024, we have already seen a prototype Kask helmet used by Ineos Grenadiers as well as a new POC helmet for the EF Pro Cycling teams. Both of these have started to blend the characteristics of a TT helmet with an aero road helmet including ear covers to smooth airflow around the rider's faces.
