The new Diem aims to be a versatile bike designed for the rigours of city riding

Basque bike manufacturer Orbea has revealed its new e-bike range, called the Diem. Aimed at urban riding and commuting the bike has been developed with three key factors in mind: performance, smart design, and personalisation.

The range uses hydroformed aluminium in its frame construction with Orbea’s own ‘diamond glide’ technology that incorporates a certain level of vertical compliance to the frame. This has been done to increase the ride quality of the bike, aiming to make it as pleasurable an experience as possible.

Joining the ‘diamond glide’ frame is a carbon fibre fork which should help absorb any vibrations from the road, thanks to its dampening qualities.

Powered by Shimano’s EP motor

Inside the frame, the motor and battery are both mounted low in the down tube. This has the effect of lowering the bike's centre of gravity which in turn provides a more planted and stable riding platform.

We are seeing a growing trend in the use of integrated lights on the latest generation of city e-bikes. The Diem features them on the front and rear and they run directly from the e-bike's internal battery. They also feature an automatic sensor that turns them on when it gets dark.

The Diem uses Shimano’s EP motor system with either a 630 or 540Wh battery to provide the rider with assistance. Orbea claims that with the 630Wh battery, you can get up to 150km or nine hours of riding on a single charge. The 540Wh battery also has a claimed range of 120km with a full charge taking around four hours.

If you are planning on a longer journey or unable to charge your bike easily Orbea offers an additional 252Wh range extender that can increase the distance between charges.

Built with versatility in mind

Orbea offers the Diem with the choice of 20kg and 30kg rear carrying racks compatible with Ortlieb and MIK systems along with an optional 10kg front rack and basket. Optional adaptors make the Diem 10 and Diem 20 compatible with Thule, Burley, Croozer and Hamax trailers.

The Diem uses a one-piece stem and handlebar that has been designed to make mounting your mobile phone secure and easy with the integrated SP Connect system. A power outlet located on the top tube offers a USB-C connection for charging your mobile phone whilst riding.

Orbea offers the Diem in a wide range of frame sizes from small to extra large with the online configurator allowing riders to customise the bike to their needs. With an overlap in frame sizing riders have the choice between a slightly smaller fit which prioritises comfort, or a slightly larger frame which prioritises performance.

The Diem is available in three different colours, Ivory White in a gloss finish, Glitter Anthracite in a gloss finish or Spaceship Green in a matte finish.
