Romain Bardet

Romain Bardet (dsm-firmech) is a French climber and general classification contender. Bardet has become a stalwart of Grand Tour top tens, with his high water mark coming in 2016 when he finished second at the Tour de France.

Bardet began his career in 2012 with AG2R-Citrëon and developed his strength as a general classification rider. 2014 was Bardet’s true breakout season with a top five overall at the Critérium du Dauphiné and a sixth place overall result at the Tour de France. In 2015 Bardet built on his 2014 form and won a stage at the Tour while producing strong results throughout the racing calendar. The next year saw another step up from the Frenchman with a second place result in the Tour GC behind Chris Froome, second as well at the Dauphiné and another stage win at the Tour to pair with those GC results.

While 2017 and 2018 saw Bardet win another Tour de France stage, a podium at the 2017 Tour, a second place at the World Championship Road Race in 2018, second place at Strade Bianche and a third place at Liège-Bastonge-Liège, it marked the end of the most successful portion of Bardet’s career. After fallow years in 2019 and 2020, Bardet made the switch to Team DSM in 2021. Since the switch, Bardet has regained some of his form of old and has returned to the top of the result sheet in some of the biggest races in the world.
