Stage 11: Foiano di Val Fortore – Francavilla al Mare (207km)
As a reward for dragging themselves through stage 10’s mountains, the sprinters get a run-out on stage 11, which brings the race over to the Adriatic coast and begins its trek back to the north of Italy.
Starting in Foiano di Val Fortore, it’s a flat run to Fracavilla al Mare. There's a small, third-category bump just before the 50km mark, but with the stage clocking in at 207km long the sprinters have plenty of time to get themselves organised for the likely bunch finish. With no fireworks expected in the general classification it’ll be a day for much of the peloton to sit back and rest their legs, and for television viewers to enjoy the visuals as much of the race runs along the coast.
After that climb it’s downhill for almost the next 50km and then pan-flat all the way to Francavilla al Mare, but there’s a twist as the riders will have to double back on themselves in the final 5km. Some sharp 90-degree bends might make for a tricky approach to the line and some last-minute drama.
