Tao Geoghegan Hart has spent his entire pro career with Team Sky/Ineos Grenadiers

As first reported by GCN earlier this summer, Tao Geoghegan Hart has signed a three-year contract with Lidl-Trek. The former Giro d’Italia has spent his entire career at Team Sky/Ineos Grenadiers but moves to the American squad in order to become their main stage race leader.

Currently undergoing rehabilitation following a major crash at the Giro d’Italia in May, Geoghegan Hart expressed his excitement over the move.

“After seven years within the same organisation there are many different emotions to approaching a new challenge in 2024. However, knowing plenty of faces within the Lidl-Trek organisation already, and having had conversations with Luca [Guercilena], Josu [Larrazabal] and Elke [Weylandt] in the past weeks, I am really looking forward to this new chapter in my career come 2024,” the British rider said in a press release issued by his future team.

“First and foremost it would be remiss not to simply aim to be back to my best physically, in terms of the numbers and level I know I can attain. From there, I am really looking forward to bonding with faces both new and old within the organisation. I am really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve at races together. Personally, I see myself as a Grand Tour rider, but I am really hungry to try to take wins in any race that I line up at throughout the season,” he added.

Lidl-Trek have made significant moves in the transfer market this year after the supermarket chain came on board this summer and increased the team’s budget. Jonathan Milan will move to the team from Bahrain Victorious for 2024, while Patrick Konrad is set to join from Bora-Hansgrohe.

Several of the team’s existing stars have also been handed new contracts for the future as the team looks to bolster their position in the WorldTour.Team manager Luca Guercilena shared his excitement with regard to the team’s latest recruit.

“Tao Geoghegan Hart’s dedication and resilience epitomise the spirit of Lidl-Trek. His journey serves as a testament to the power of determination, and we are excited to welcome him to our team. As Tao embarks on this new adventure, we stand united in our commitment to pushing boundaries, achieving greatness, and creating a legacy of excellence,” the Italian said.
