Rui Costa celebrates his final win in Intermarché-Circus-Wanty colours, at the Japan Cup Cycle Road Race
Former world champion Rui Costa will race for EF Education-EasyPost in 2024 having agreed terms to race for the American team.
The 37-year-old was out of contract at the end of the current season after it was confirmed that Intermarché-Circus-Wanty would not be renewing his contract. According to our sources, EF Education-EasyPost have used one of their final spaces to pick up the veteran. Neither the American team, nor his agent, have commented on the move.
Last week the rider’s agent highlighted Rui Costa’s worth on the market.
“Rui has shown this year that he is still as eager as ever and can perform at the highest level. With over 1300 UCI points and the 50th highest-ranked rider in the world, he's a value to most teams. We saw at the Vuelta and in Piemonte that he is as motivated as ever and remains above all else professional,’ João Correia told GCN.

The veteran rider has enjoyed a hugely successful renaissance this season, winning a stage in the Vuelta a España. On Sunday he won the Japan Cup Cycle Road Race, while he started the season in fine form too, winning the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.
Rui Costa will provide valuable experience to EF Education-EasyPost, and slot into their stage racing and one-day squads.
The team has been highly active on the transfer market this season, signing a gaggle of youngsters from the U23 ranks including Markel Beloki, Lukas Nerurkar, Darren Rafferty, Jack Gray-Rootkin, Archie Ryan and Jardi Christiaan van der Lee. Harry Sweeny has been picked up from Lotto Dstny, while Michael Valgren returns to the WorldTour team after a season on the squad development programme.
