Neo pros are the 'rookies' of the peloton - the term essentially means a first year professional aged 25 or under. 'Neos', in the strictest sense, only really exist at Pro-Continental and World Tour level. Once a rider makes it to the big time, they can expect a minimum contract of two years and a specified minimum salary to go with it.
While newcomers to the peloton generally earn their stripes by riding in domestique roles, some have enjoyed plenty of success in their very first year, such as Warren Barguil, John Degenkolb and Adam Yates.
