6 years of development went into these shorts and they have been completely redesigned from the S7 Shorts. A key feature of the redesign is what ASSOS is calling A-Lock Engineering. Put simply It’s a new way of attaching the bib straps to the shorts to improve comfort. Its designed to keep the chamois pad securely place and prevent it from moving when cornering or when you get out the saddle.

The new straps are deliberately really wide and soft to help you forget they are on too. All of the fabric feels really nice. In the past, the limitations of lycra meant that the more panels shorts had, the better the fit. However, fabric technology has improved a lot and now enables ASSOS to use fewer panels while still improving fit. In fact, just two panels have been used in the construction of the S9. A “butterfly” panel wraps the legs and meets at the rear to form the “ergoBox” structure. A big advantage of this is far fewer seams, which can often cause irritation and it helps them look very smart.
