The Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed tyre already has WorldTour wins

Vittoria has added a new tyre to its popular Corsa range in the form of the Corsa Pro Speed.

Unlike the outgoing Corsa Speed TLR G2.0 model that it’s replacing, the Corsa Pro Speed is designed specifically for time trials and triathlons and arrives with some significant upgrades, including a claimed 5% increase in performance. The new model has also shed grams over the previous model, with a claimed weight of 250g for 28c tyre, and is only available in tubeless-ready form.

Despite only just being officially released, its performance credentials have already been proven at WorldTour level in 2023, having been used by Jumbo-Visma riders throughout the season. The climax of these appearances came on stage 16 of the Tour de France when Jonas Vingegaard used the tyres during his spectacular time trial victory which all-but secured his second title at the French Grand Tour. They were also used by Wout van Aert during his time trial victory at the Belgian National Championships.

"The Corsa PRO Speed tire is a game-changer in the world of time trial racing," Vanessa ten Hoff, Vittoria’s Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer, said in a press release.

"We understand the demands and challenges faced by athletes in this field, and we have created a tire that can truly enhance their performance. We are proud to launch this product and believe it will exceed our customers' expectations."

The Corsa Pro Speed will join the Corsa Pro TLR and Corsa Pro Control TLR, both released in 2023, to complete the updated Corsa range.

Race-winning pedigree

Most cycling products are joined by various claims when they’re released but, in the case of the Corsa Pro Speed, these appear to have been backed up by its already prolific record at WorldTour level.

This performance is delivered through the 320 TPI cotton casing which is paired with a new tread pattern. As is common for a tyre built for speed, this tread pattern prioritises a wider slick area along the centre of the tyre, with grooves along the outer edges. The grooves have been brought closer together to ensure that the tyre is still grippy while cornering.

The tread has been created using an updated compound which combines graphene and silica - Vittoria has been using graphene in its tyres for a number of years so this sounds like a slight tweak to its existing formula. When teamed with the casing, the final package results in 5% more performance and a 2% saving in weight over the previous model, according to Vittoria.

The weight saving can also be partly attributed to Vittoria’s decision to not include the puncture protection belt that is included in standard Corsa Pro tyres. It’s not a surprising omission for a bike that is so centred around performance, but is likely to make the tyre more puncture-prone.

Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed availability and pricing

The Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed is available in three different sizes, either a 24c, 26c or 28c, with each option costing €94.95. At 225g, the 24c tips the scales at the lightest weight, while the 26c is 230g and the 28c is 250g.

As previously mentioned, the tyres are tubeless-ready, although they can be run with a tubed set-up. They’re also only available with tan sidewalls.

  • Price: €94.95
