Liv AlUla Jayco is a new-look team for 2024, born from a merger between the two Liv-backed outfits Jayco AlUla and Liv Racing TeqFind, although it's understood that the new WorldTour team will be largely a continuation of the Jayco team in terms of licence, infrastructure and behind the scenes staff. The teams will also launch a development squad for 2024.

Jayco AlUla started its life back in 2012, at the same time as its men’s WorldTour counterpart, whilst Liv Racing has been around in various guises since 2006.

Jayco, which forms the basis of this new merger, initially consisted mainly of Australian riders but has since grown into a more international roster, though its core identity remains distinctly Australian, even since the merger.

Five riders are moving from Liv to the new squad for 2024, including climber Mavi García who will likely be one of the team's GC hopes this season, alongside Urška Žigart. Australians Alex Manly, Georgia Baker and new Australian national champion Ruby Roseman-Gannon will be their main sprinting and Classics riders, whilst the likes of Ella Wyllie and Caroline Andersson bring youth to the squad.

Jayco AlUla and Liv Racing TeqFind to merge in 2024

Jayco AlUla and Liv Racing TeqFind will merge in 2024 and be supported by Liv Cycling

 have announced that they will merge at the end of this season, becoming one WorldTeam for 2024, as well as setting up a development team at Continental level.

The merger will be supported by Liv Cycling - a brand that forms part of the Giant Group and is dedicated solely to women’s cycling - which has sponsored both teams for the past seasons.

The move will see Liv Racing TeqFind merge into the GreenEDGE Cycling organisation, with the Australian outfit therefore expected to retain some superiority in the merge. No team name has been announced yet.

Neither team have confirmed any transfers in or out for the next season, but the new outfit could see the likes of 

The merge will effectively see the end of Liv Racing TeqFind, who have been racing since 2006, in various incarnations as Rabobank-Liv Giant, WoawDeals Pro Cycling, and CCC-Liv, with the likes of 

 and Anna van der Breggen passing through their ranks.

“We are extremely happy to take next steps in the further professionalisation of women’s cycling with Liv Cycling,” commented Liv Racing TeqFind owner and manager Eric van den Boom. “Together we have a long history of establishing a solid foundation for the sport. This is now in place, with good training facilities and guidance and an appealing race programme.

“In the phase we are in now, we see that a different approach is required to further increase the success of women’s cycling and its reach.”

Pooling their resources into one WorldTour outfit, Jayco AlUla and Liv Racing TeqFind will bring together a wealth of experience, with the Australian team now racing in its 11th season.

The merge will also see the creation of a new development team, likely to race at Continental level. New regulations brought in at the start of 2023 have allowed Women’s WorldTour teams to have official development teams, and the new Liv-backed project will see them join the likes of 

“With the arrival of a development team, we are creating the ideal environment for up-and-coming talent,” said Van den Boom. “With access to the same knowledge, insights and training methods as the WorldTeam, tomorrow’s heroes can get ready in a professional environment. So that one day they will be on the highest podium of the most famous races. Thanks to this careful approach, we are making our beloved sport accessible to even more women, regardless of their background.”

Neither Jayco AlUla nor Liv Racing TeqFind currently have a development pathway, though GreenEDGE Cycling announced a partnership with men’s Continental side 

 ahead of next season. The new team will add to the growing number of pathways for riders looking to move up to the WorldTour.

“To have a structured development pathway in place for any rider is not only an important part of a rider’s career, but is something that we feel is lacking for the women’s peloton in particular,” was the verdict of Jayco AlUla general manager Brent Copeland. “Unlike the men’s peloton, there is currently no competitive under 23 category and the step up from junior to elite level is huge.”
With WorldTour teams limited to 20 riders, the new development team could also see some of the existing Jayco and Liv riders find a new home for 2024.

Liv Racing TeqFind have been racing on Liv bikes since 2013, whilst Jayco AlUla switched to the manufacturer in 2022, and the new partnership will see the Taiwanese manufacturer support the team until 2027.

“Women’s cycling is growing worldwide, and we want to ensure the athletes we support are provided every avenue for success,” commented Lic Cycling founder Bonnie Tu. “It is clear this merge of the two teams into and the start of the GreenEDGE Cycling Development Team will give way to even more possibilities for the athletes to reach the top of the WorldTour level, and bring more women and girls into pro-cycling.”

 went the traditional way in waiting for 2024 to arrive before unveiling their fresh racing kits, with the GreenEDGE Cycling teams lifting the curtain on their new look on Monday morning.

, had revealed their fresh look weeks in advance of the New Year, which has allowed Jayco AlUla the spotlight to show off their latest kit on New Year's Day itself. Sported by 

 in the team's press pictures, Jayco AlUla's kit is once again largely the same for both the men and women - bar the different title sponsors. 

Pro cycling kits 2024: What the WorldTour teams are wearing

In a striking change from the white and blue jersey that the team were supplied by Alé in 2023, the new kit for the Jayco AlUla men's WorldTeam is orange, white, light blue and navy, with orange and navy helmets to match. The team will continue to ride on 

, whose new colourway may have a shout at being named the most dashing in the 2024 peloton. 

As for the Women's WorldTeam and UCI Continental team, Jayco AlUla and Liv Racing TeqFind merged in the off-season to become Liv AlUla Jayco in 2024. Their kit has the same design as the men's, but with 

's trademark aubergine colour replacing the light blue on the upper body. 

The merger brought about the end of the Liv Racing TeqFind WorldTeam, but will see Liv AlUla Jayco launch a UCI Continental outfit in 2024, which will effectively serve as a women's development team and allow younger riders the opportunity to flourish.

Both women's teams will continue to race on Liv bikes in 2024, which themselves offer a striking colourway made up of orange, aubergine, white and seemingly every shade of purple/pink you can imagine. 

2024 will be the second year that Alé has supplied the teams with their kits, but just one look will tell you that the New Year marks a notable visual change for the Australian sides. 

GreenEDGE Cycling says that their new kits have "a dash of blue tones inspired from the Australian ocean, the Jayco blue jay bird and Giant Bicycles, to the red hot desert sands of the outback mixed in with hints of deep aubergine found in the AlUla night sky and Liv Cycling."

Some eagle-eyed X users have noticed that the new jerseys are akin to the Jayco-AIS kits that the former Australian team wore between 2009 and 2012. The Continental side featured the likes of 

 before GreenEDGE launched the Orica GreenEDGE WorldTeam in 2012.

The two respective WorldTeams of GreenEDGE Cycling came up trumps once again at the Australian national championships, with 

For Plapp, it marks a third successive title on the bounce and the 23-year-old has assured that his first season with Jayco AlUla will be spent in the national champion's colours of green and gold. As for Roseman-Gannon, the victory proved emotional, as the 25-year-old claimed her first national road title. Her form had already been apparent in winning the criterium national championships on Friday.

 across the line in the sprint after a wet and aggressive day in the saddle for all involved. 

The men's race was even more dominant for GreenEDGE, with Plapp and teammate 

 launching a two-up attack with over 100km to ride, and riding alone to the finish. There was never any doubt over who would take the victory, with both riders sitting up in celebration on the finishing straight and Harper allowing Plapp to roll through to retain his title. 

In third place and a mammoth 6:09 down on the front pair, Jayco AlUla teammate 

 made it a 1-2-3 by pipping Elliot Schultz (Team BridgeLane) and Chris Hamilton (dsm-firmenich PostNL) in a sprint for the final podium place. 

The former Ineos Grenadiers man has now picked up both the road and time trial titles in the same season for the first time and will be a valued asset for Jayco AlUla in the coming years.

“The Aussies are back, GreenEDGE is back," said Plapp after the finish. "That was amazing out there, I think from the gun we had everything under control and me and Harper had a great time out there, I can’t thank him enough. We just wanted to be in control the whole time and I think we saw it, we knew we could take control early and once we were out there we always had it in the bag."

"Plappy was absolutely flying at the end there," added Harper, "so I had to tell him to ease up a little bit for me, but it’s a great day and a good hit out for us going to Tour Down Under next week as well.”

Roseman-Gannon could scarcely believe what had happened after the finish of the women's race, such was her delight, but the third-year pro was quick to heap praise on her teammates for their help. 

"I think I'm just in shock. The last couple of years I wanted this so bad and every year I finished just a bit disappointed and I just can't believe [it], I wanted it so bad today," said Roseman-Gannon. 

"I had amazing legs, it helped that I was always up the road on the climb but I couldn't thank my team enough. This is the best group and I'm just in shock! The last time in Ballarat, it means a lot and I think it just doesn't feel real."

The racing on Sunday was to be a poignant moment for AusCycling, who held a moment of silence for 

It was also to be the final national championships held in Ballarat, with CEO Marne Fechner confirming that the races would be moving to a new location next season, after 21 years and 18 consecutive editions held in the Victorian city. 

With all eyes on Australia in advance of the Tours Down Under, there was an all-star cast at roadside to take in the action, with FDJ-SUEZ's Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig supporting her partner Miles Scotson (Arkéa - B&B Hotels) and Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas cheering on his partner Tiffany Cromwell (Canyon-SRAM). 

Bottas even competed in the Gran Fondo event earlier in the day, but the first set of elite action came from the women's peloton, with Roseman-Gannon finding the power to win the reduced group sprint and claim a treasured victory.

Plapp and Harper go for broke, as women's race entertains 

As we have come to expect not only from the Australian national championships, but also women's one-day racing in general, the race won by Roseman-Gannon was an unpredictable, entertaining affair. Liv AlUla Jayco had less of a stranglehold on the race than their male counterparts did, but the eventual winner was right in pointing to the help of her teammates towards the win. 

The race consisted of nine ascents of the Mount Buninyong Road climb and throughout the course of the day, Roseman-Gannon was regularly to be seen towards the front saving her energy for the all-important moments to come. 

She would need her energy reserves as the final few laps saw an array of scattered attacks which served to break apart the peloton time and time again. First, there was the brave Courtney Sherwell who made her move alone, but she was soon joined by the day's most aggressive rider Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance-Soudal Team) and Amanda Spratt (Lidl-Trek). 

Both Spratt and Gigante would be in a plethora of attacks off the front in the closing stages, and for a moment on the final lap, it looked as though the pair and Roseman-Gannon would contest the win - but it was not to be. A concerted chase behind swelled the lead group to 11 riders as the finish line came into view, and it was at this moment that the Liv AlUla Jayco's rider's power was called upon. 

Determined not to be left disappointed again, Roseman-Gannon took to the centre of the road and unleashed her sprint, which could not be matched and saw the 25-year-old claim her second national title in three days. 

The fireworks in the men's race were reserved for much earlier in the contest, with Plapp even involved in the day's earliest attacks. The new Jayco AlUla recruit was initially joined by Scotson and Simon Clarke, the latter of whom had not been deterred by protestors contesting the presence of Israel-Premier Tech riders at the race. 

Their three-up attack was the race's first defining move with a little over 130km to ride, but a larger group soon formulated and had within it multiple Jayco AlUla riders - as is often the case for Australia's only WorldTeam. 

Plapp's team was able to play the numbers game when he and Harper attacked as a pair with over 100km to ride. The team refused to contribute to the chasing groups behind, including the large group of team sprinter Caleb Ewan, and by the finish, the gap to Plapp and Harper had swelled above six minutes. 

The victory for Plapp was a third in succession but proved an overdue one for Jayco AlUla, who had not won the elite men's race since 2021. A tremendous day for the team was rounded off by O'Brien's comfortable sprint for third, with Jayco AlUla now having made a clean sweep of both the road race and time trial podiums.
