UCI Women's WorldTeam
Founded in 2018, Movistar’s women’s team has grown from a relatively modest, largely Spanish squad to one of the most decorated teams in the peloton, due in no small part to the successes of Annemiek van Vleuten.
The Dutchwoman joined the team in 2021, and has since won the Tour of Flanders, three editions of La Vuelta Femenina, two more editions of the Giro Donne and the inaugural Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, all in Movistar colours.
Van Vleuten has been supported by a band of invaluable climbers and domestiques, such as Aude Biannic and Paula Patiño. Movistar isn’t all about Van Vleuten, though, and it’s clear in their 2023 signings that they are trying to build a team for after the 41-year-old’s retirement at the end of this year.
As well as existing riders Emma Norsgaard and Arlenis Sierra, the team has welcomed the former Team DSM duo of Floortje Mackaij and Liane Lippert for 2023 to strengthen their Classics and one-day racing.
On the climbing and GC front, they have developing talent Sarah Gigante, and it’s likely that German champion Lippert may grow into an overall contender in her role at Movistar, and build upon her stage win at this year's Tour de France Femmes.
