Tudor Pro Cycling reveal 2024 BMC Teammachine R

 have revealed the bikes they will be riding in 2024, showing off a black and orange version of the new BMC 

Upon its release in October, the Teammachine R was branded as "one bike to rule them all", and it'll be used by the Swiss ProTeam in all races on their 2024 programme.

Following confirmation that AG2R La Mondiale would be 

, there is no longer a WorldTour team riding BMC. 

This makes Tudor Pro Cycling the highest-ranking team to be riding BMC bikes for 2024. It has been stated that Tudor Pro Cycling’s aim is to attain WorldTour status for the 2026 season.

BMC continues partnership with Red Bull for new Teammachine R

The launch of the new team bike was accompanied by a workshop build video, which shows a step-by-step run-through of assembling the bike, highlighting the spec choices the team will be using. 

 Red AXS is the groupset of choice for Tudor. However, it is noteworthy that BMC has stuck with a press-fit bottom bracket on the Teammachine R. In the video, you can see that the SRAM Red cranks are installed into a PF86 bottom bracket. This bucks the trend we have been seeing from a lot of brands as they have reverted back to a threaded bottom bracket or the new T47 standard.

The video shows the process of installing and setting up the fully internal brake hoses, which are fed through the bars and the headset. This is commonplace in premium bike design now, even if it splits opinions. In the video it’s made to look very simple, but, as any home mechanic knows, when it comes to adjusting your cockpit or changing headset bearings it undoubtedly introduces complications.

BMC unveils all new Speedmachine in collaboration with Red Bull

The Teammachine R was designed in collaboration with the engineers from RedBull Advanced Technologies (RBAT). They emphasised rider feel as a design characteristic – something that they brought over from their experience in Formula 1.

BMC has heralded the Teammachine R as a "bike for all parcours", meaning that, while some teams still have dedicated aero and climbing frames, Tudor Pro Cycling will be using this one bike for all races they take to the start of in 2024.

Matteo Trentin hopeful of Giro d’Italia wildcard for Tudor Pro Cycling

Matteo Trentin has signed a three-year deal with Tudor Pro Cycling

's chances of success in 2024, with a Giro d'Italia wildcard a real target for the ProTeam.

The Swiss team secured Trentin's signature back in August and he is keen to provide the young team with an experienced head whilst also taking on leadership roles in the Classics.

Discussing his hopes for next season with 

, the 34-year-old cited Tudor's ambition as part of what attracted him to the team.

"The team is super young and they want to grow." 

Hinting at how he will help the team to improve, he added: "To grow you need an experienced guy who knows what to do, when to go.

"The stuff behind [the scenes] is already really well prepared but you need someone in the race to have an insight into what’s going on."

Asked if he thought the team could get a 

 wildcard, and make their Grand Tour debut in the process, in 2024, Trentin's response was to the point: "Yes, I'm hopeful. Why not?"

"I can still be competitive for the next few years"

Trentin has endured a challenging season, with three second-place finishes on the WorldTour, two at the 

, all to write home about. However, the 34-year-old, who penned a three-year deal with the Swiss squad, still believes that he is on the right path.

"From what I see, I can still be competitive and still be at the front. That’s what I want to do for the next few years."

Honest about this year's lack of results, the 2018 European road champion admitted: "Last season was really shit personally. I think I made a good step up in training and knowing myself but of course I didn’t reach the results I wanted. But that’s part of the game, that’s part of cycling. 

Also joining Tudor for 2024 will be sports director Matteo Tosatto. The Italian recently confirmed to 

The arrival of a Grand Tour-winning sports director was well received by Trentin, a friend of Tossato's since his racing days.

"I think it’s going to be a good addition. I know 'Toso' very well, since he was a rider. We are friends and I’m really happy to have him with me next year," he said.

Asked if Tosatto's appointment influenced his own decision, Trentin was diplomatic in his response.

"I knew [he might be joining] but you never know what’s going to happen in cycling. When they told me the news I was really happy."

Italian pleased by Tudor's sprinting options

Assessing the team's current roster, the Classics specialist revealed how impressed he was by the performances of Dutchman 

 in 2023. After winning Milan-Torino in the spring, he followed it up with four more Pro Series stage wins.

"He’s stepped up because he was a good sprinter [already] but this year he really showed he has potential and probably can grow again.

 next year too, after he signed a two-year deal from 

"We have two main sprinters who can sprint at basically every single stage race and I think Alberto can step up also on the harder finishes."

Matteo Tosatto has confirmed that he will take up a sports director role at 

 next year, closing a six-year window at 

 that he made the decision to move on for personal reasons and in order to seek out a new challenge in the sport.

“I decided to leave because it was the best decision for me. I have a new big opportunity now to go with Tudor and that’s the best for me at this particular moment,” the former pro rider told 

“I had a super time at Ineos for the last six years. Now it’s a bit of disappointment to be leaving but it’s the right time. I don’t know if the team is happy but like I said, it’s the best decision for me.”

Tosatto oversaw a number of high-profile victories within the British team but he highlighted 

’s surprise win at the 2020 Giro d’Italia as his fondest moment in team management.

“I have a lot of great memories from the team but the best for me was probably the 2020 Giro d’Italia that we won with Tao. That changed the mentality within the team. I decided the tactics in that race and I also really enjoyed the Strade Bianche win with Tom Pidcock, but my favourite memory was the Giro in 2020,” Tosatto said.

“It was special because we started as the big favourite for the race with Geraint Thomas but after he crashed we won the pink jersey, white jersey, team classification and several stages. We also saw the best version of Rohan Dennis that we’d seen for the last three or four years. It was the best moment.”

In the last few seasons Ineos Grenadiers have seen their stage-racing dominance eroded by the likes of UAE Team Emirates and Jumbo-Visma. The British team has not won a Grand Tour since 2021 and they are on course to end the current campaign without an overall win in a WorldTour stage race. Tosatto pointed to a number of factors for the recent downturn but highlighted the crop of young riders coming through the ranks within the team as a reason for optimism.

“It’s a difficult question but Ineos is still a very strong team,” he said.

“If you look at the last three years, with Jumbo and UAE, these are the best three teams. For Ineos the Tour is super important, but with the crash for Egan Bernal we lost him, and it’s been difficult but they have still remained a very strong team. 

"Many riders are leaving but they have a big sponsor, have good staff and will stay strong. More importantly they have looked to the future with a lot of super young riders who are strong. The next two years will see them take a lot of important victories. They have that quality.”

The move to Tudor in 2024 will see Tosatto link up with one of his former Fassa Bortolo teammates, Fabian Cancellara, who runs the second division team.

“I decided to go to Tudor because I spoke to them many times, and I spoke to Fabian Cancellara. They have had a big programme for many years and the big step in 2024 is to get into a big tour, maybe the Giro d’Italia. They’re ready for the first big Tour and they are waiting for a wildcard,” Tosatto said.

“There were many rumours after the Giro and Tour that I would leave the team and Rod called me and asked if they were true. I told him it wasn’t decided but it wasn’t just Tudor who were talking to me and I had two or three opportunities. But I waited until after the Tour de France and after August I decided, and I talked to Rod Ellingworth, made my decision and he didn’t ask me to stay because I had decided to leave.”
