Mattias Skjelmose

Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) is a Danish climber and gc contender.

With a strong finishing punch and a climbers frame, Skelmose has become one of the peloton’s leading men in short stage races and the hillier classics. After elevating to the World Tour in 2021 for Trek-Segafredo at 20 years old, the Dane has stood out at races like Flèche Wallonne, Etoile de Bessège and the Tour de Suisse.

Particularly, Skelmose’s performance at the 2023 Tour de Suisse, where he won the overall GC ahead of the likes of Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal - Quick Step), jumps out as a harbinger for things to come. Although the 2023 Tour de France did not go as he would have liked, the 2023 Danish champion will certainly be a feature of the hilly races on the calendar to come.
