Primož Roglič set to debut for Bora-Hansgrohe at Paris-Nice and clash with Vingegaard at Basque Country

Slovenian's pre-Tour de France schedule focusses on stage racing with key appointments in the spring and early summer

Primož Roglič will wear Bora-Hansgrohe colours at Paris-Nice

Official confirmation has yet to be released but GCN has learned that Primož Roglič will make his Bora-Hansgrohe race debut at Paris-Nice in March and that his first major clash with former teammate Jonas Vingegaard will take place at Itzulia Basque Country a month later.

The rest of Roglič’s known race programme will focus on the Tour de France with only the Critérium du Dauphiné on his current schedule. A decision over the second half of the year is dependent on Olympic Games selection and his form after the Tour.

Roglič’s race programme will see him go up against Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) at Paris-Nice, and both the Belgian and Vingegaard at the Critérium du Dauphiné.

Roglič moved to Bora-Hansgrohe over the winter after breaking his contract with Visma-Lease a Bike and providing his former team with compensation. The move to the German WorldTour squad ensures that Roglič will have complete leadership at the Tour de France and quells any debate over the hierarchy within the squad.

At last year’s Vuelta a España, for example, the Slovenian was forced to settle for a place on the podium after team tactics dictated that he couldn’t attack teammate and race leader, Sepp Kuss.

On Wednesday Bora-Hansgrohe will unveil their main objectives for the season during a presentation in Mallorca, Spain but it looks as though Roglič will forego any ideas of racing the Spring Classics as he focuses entirely on his build-up and preparation towards the Tour de France.

His record in the Tour de France is mixed. He has won three stages and he finished second to Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) in 2020 but he did not finish the race in 2021 or 2022 and then skipped the race in 2023 as he targetted, and won, the Giro d’Italia.

It’s understood that Jai Hindley, who is currently in Australia, will make his season debut at the Clàsica Comunitat Valenciana on January 20. He will then lead the team at Tirreno-Adriatico and take on Vingegaard for the overall standings.

Hindley is set to skip the Giro d’Italia and form part of Rogilč’s assault on the overall standings at the Tour de France. It’s unclear who will lead the German squad at the Giro but with Aleksandr Vlasov, Dani Martínez, and Sergio Higuita the squad certainly have potential options for leadership.
