Giro d’Italia Women reveal new maglia rosa for 2024

The Giro d’Italia Women has revealed the new maglia rosa for the Grand Tour this July. The jersey, produced by Castelli, was presented on Friday, 8 March in Milan to celebrate International Women’s Day.

RCS, the organisers of Milan-San Remo, Strade Bianche and the men’s Giro d’Italia, are in charge of the race for the first time and have brought the jersey in line with the traditional look of the men’s jersey.

The design has some unique elements compared to the men’s design including a different sponsor in Polti and an inscription on the red collar of the jersey with a message reading “we believe in victory” as a message signifying “a symbol of women’s strength and determination to win in sport and in life.”

The message is meant to reference both the literal victory of the race and the victory in ending violence against women.

“The maglia rosa is a symbol recognised worldwide, not only for the Giro d’Italia but also for the Giro d’Italia Women,” Urbano Cairo, President of RCS MediaGroup, said in a press release.

“We are certain that the Giro d’Italia Women will also be, like all our other races, a great showcase at a global level not only for the athletes but also for the sponsors who will accompany us in this new adventure”.

As for the detail on the collar, the Giro d’Italia made it a point to highlight their efforts in the fight to eliminate violence against women.

“We have included a red background in the collar to raise awareness of the issue of gender violence,” Paolo Bellino, Managing Director at RCS Sport, said. “All three Grand Tours that we organise – Giro d’Italia, Giro d’Italia Women and Giro Next Gen – will be an important driver for this message.”
