History

Prologo was founded in 2006 in Italy when Salvatore Truglio met long-time Velo Saddles CEO Stella Yu, a company which had been creating saddles for other market-leading brands as an OEM for nearly 30 years. The pair shared a similar ambition to create products that would be the point of reference in the world of racing and high-end cycling alike.

The company wasted little time, releasing its first saddle in 2007 - the Choice - which immediately shot to the highest level of the sport, used by pro teams Tinkoff and Milram. This relationship proved to be fruitful with riders providing valuable feedback, and a year later the Italian brand released its first time trial saddle for four-time World Champion Fabian Cancellara, the Nago Evo TTR.

Many more models have followed, as have multiple partnerships with doctors and universities as the brand has enhanced its knowledge and expertise in pursuit of top-performing saddles.

Alongside this, the company introduced MyOwn in 2015, its in-house fitting system which helps customers to find the perfect fit. Saddles are available in multiple widths, shapes and with cut outs, and the software helps match the perfect saddle to the individual characteristics of a rider, plus the discipline they’re participating in.

Other developments have followed, including CPC (Connect, Power, Control), the brand’s patented material which offers optimum grip, shock absorption, and air cooling.

Prologo also worked with the Polytechnic University of Milan to develop MSS (Multi Sector System) technology, which incorporates multiple different islands onto a saddle, all with differing densities and foam that work autonomously to adapt to a rider’s position.

Did you know?

The name Prologo is taken from the Latin word Prologus, meaning ‘to start’. Many Grand Tours and stage races start with prologues, which also takes its name from Prologus, which is why the company’s O logo represents a chronometer (used to accurately measure time).

Highlights

  • After building up nearly three decades in the industry, Stella Yu teamed up with Salvatore Truglio to found Prologo in 2006.
  • The company wanted to become the benchmark for pro-level saddles and immediately hit lofty heights with the Choice, its first saddle, which won multiple stages at the Giro d’Italia in 2007.
  • In 2008 the Prologo entered the time trial market for the first time through the Nago Evo TTR. It also achieved immediate success, ridden by Fabian Cancellara to victory in the opening time trial at the 2009 Tour de France as the Swiss rider claimed the first yellow jersey of the race.
  • To help cyclists find the right saddle, Prologo released its MyOwn software in 2015. This matches a saddle to the characteristics of a rider, helping to find the perfect saddle.
  • Alongside its road offering, Prologo also offers a range of off-road saddles. The latest addition to this range was the AGX in 2023, designed for gravel, adventure and cyclocross riding.
