Tour of Oman 2024 overview

The Tour of Oman returns in 2024 for the 13th edition of the five-day race, taking place from February 10 to 14. The race, which is the longest-running major stage race in the Middle East, will once again centre around the final climb of the Jabal Al Akhdhar (Green Mountain), as a mix of WorldTour and ProTour teams battle for early victories and UCI points at the 2.Pro stage race.

While last year’s winner Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) will not be on the start this year, the rest of the potential contenders look set to be strong. Adam Yates and Isaac del Toro will lead the charge for UAE Team Emirates for the GC contest, Fabio Jakobsen (dsm-firmenich PostNL) will look for opportunities in the sprints, Matej Mohorič (Bahrain Victorious) will be on the hunt for stage opportunities and the young Soudal Quick-Step duo of Paul Magnier and Luke Lamperti will be sure to mix it up in a few finishes.

As far as the route goes, the Tour of Oman is nothing if not predictable, with the same format of five road stages punctuated with a final mountain day up Green Mountain on tap again for 2024. Green Mountain is a short but steep climb, weighing in at 5.7km at 9.9%, and will come at the end of five days of racing.

While the final stage will once again finish on the familiar slopes of Green Mountain, the first four stages will mix different terrain from the hilly Middle Eastern country with an assortment of punchy stages and sprint opportunities on offer. Last year the race skewed towards the climbers with steep finishes on three of the five stages. While the profiles have yet to be released for the 2024 edition, expect more of the same.
