Following on from our videos at the weekend where we pitched our super bike against a mid range bike to see just how they stack up out on the road, we thought we’d tackle the question of just what makes a super bike so good.

For me, you don’t have to have a super bike to get super bike feel. I love my cross bike which admittedly is more expensive than our mid range bike, but it’s not absolutely top of the range. Apart from the Zipp wheels. And the GCN handbuilt bike weighs a lot more than a carbon road bike, but it still feels great to ride, the geometry makes it feel fast, even if the average speeds I maintain are still slower than when I’m on my Canyon Aeroad. I do think though that while you don’t need to spend money on a super bike to get super bike feel, you do need to spend a bit more than our mid range AND then get yourself a nice set of carbon wheels. And yes the difference in feel is big enough to justify the extra expense if you are able to afford it.

We've also got extra sprockets, aero chainsets, carbon wheels, alloy rims and and a load of Paris-Roubaix tech.
