Vuelta A España Inside Line - How To Keep Cool Like A Pro

Published on September 1st 2013

The Vuelta a Espana is hot, and getting hotter as we head further south. We asked the teams to give us the inside line on what methods they use to keep their pro riders cool. Follow GCN on YouTube: Hydration is key to making sure pro cyclists perform at their best and don't have any issues with the scorching Spanish temperatures at the Vuelta. We spoke to members of the team from Orica GreenEDGE, Team Sky, Garmin SHARP, Netapp Endura and Lotto Belisol to find out how they all deal with the heat. Drinking plenty of water and electrolyte mix help, and all the teams seem to use ice socks - a pair of stockings cut in two with ice inside that the riders use before the stage and at feed zones. Staying cool before the stage as well as cooling down quickly post-race help too.
