Coming in at $1000, there is no denying that these shoes are on the upper end of the pricing scale. Ex-Professional Cyclist Simon Richardson talks through these shoes and what he finds so special about them.
The project to produce these shoes began in 2011 after pro-riders demanded a very light shoe whilst remaining stiff and great power transmission. So it has certainly been a lengthy process to be able to release this two piece shoe.

Part 1 of the shoe is the carbon fibre outer, almost skeleton like, which is very light and maintains excellent strength. The stack height of the shoe is 4.5mm. This means that your foot is able to transmit power very efficiently with minimum loss.

Part 2 of the shoe is the inner "bootie". It's designed with hot weather riding and is made of a synthetic material, that integrates with the the outer shell and gives a bonded-like joint through friction to allow the foot to not move around. The bootie also features an insole, which is replaceable with a higher volume insole should your feet require.

Why two pieces? Mavic discovered a reduction in calf muscle activity with this system when pedalling and then established there is a greater muscular efficiency. Due to the lower ankle design of the shoe, Mavic also worked out that the increased movement of ankle mean that a rider could have a better pedal stroke, thus leading to more power at the dead point of pedalling.

The shoes come complete with a cleaning cloth and also overshoes, how cool?!
