Rui Costa's victory in the Elite Men's Road Race was the final act in a dramatic week at the World Championships.
Brian Cookson defeated Pat McQuaid in what had become a battle for the UCI presidency. Marianne Vos continued her dominance of women's cycling with victory in the road race. Ellen van Dijk and Tony Martin, who were the favourites for the Elite Time Trials both took clear victories.
The Junior and Under 23 races were also action-packed. Mathieu van der Poel won the Junior Men's road race, while Igor Decraene won the time trial. Matej Mohoric took the under 23 road race,with Australian favourite Damien Howson winning the time trial. Severine Eraud won the Junior women's Time Trial and Amalie Dideriksen won the road race.
