Improving your existing bike doesn't need to break the bank. Whether you want to improve ride quality, your training or comfort, you can achieve all of these goals with a few basic upgrades.

We gave Daniel our channel editor Mike's bike and asked him how he'd upgrade it.

Where should you start? If you're a beginner, we think that the best upgrade you can make is a set of clipless pedals and cycling shoes. If, like Mike, you're already on clipless pedals, we think that a new set of light wheels combined with a set of tyres (give 25mms a try - you won't look back!) is one of the best upgrades that you can make.

However, not all upgrades need to involve spending your cash. Cleaning your bike is an upgrade that is pretty much free, and a clean is a new bike.

Have we missed any upgrades? What's the best upgrade you've made to your bike? Let us know below.
