This week in the world of cycling, we learned that having lights on your bike during daylight hours and wearing high vis, contrary to some studies, do actually do what common sense would tell you, and decrease the risk of accidents.
Yep. The results of an ambitious study were published last week, showing that accidents were reduced by 47% and 38 % respectively, compared to using neither.

We also learned that while we might have been able to take our thermal gloves here in the UK at the weekend, the first World Naked Bike ride of the year was taking place in Brazil.
Resist the temptation to make any jokes Si…
Okay. Just let me say that while we do some dangerous things here on GCN, if we went to that one it wouldn’t be hairy at all. Right, moving swiftly on...
This week, we are talking about Cycling’s Seven Deadly Sins. The real ones, if you need reminding, that still definitely apply to cyclists are Lust…

...nothing to do with naked Brazilian bike riders…
Gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride.
I suspect we’re all guilty of those, but what about those cardinal sins that are unique to cycling?
Leaving slower riders in the middle of nowhere
I’m going to get us started. Dropping slower riders and then Leaving them in the middle of nowhere. You know the scene, group ride sets off, new recruit starts to struggle, new recruit gets dropped, no one waits, new recruit gets home 8 hours later, in the dark, never rides bike again.

True, always wait for the weakest. It’s why we always start off really gently, so that Matt can catch up after trying to clip back in.
Okay, next up, riding a noisy bike. This does my nut in. If my bike makes a noise, it had better be a damn good ride to make me forget about it, and if it’s someone else’s bike… Well, we’ll be going back to the original sins with some good old wrath.
A noisy bike, a bit like this one Si?
