Should This Be UCI Legal? | GCN Tech Show Ep. 42

The IronMan world championships in Kona has become a popular place to launch new TT bikes and this year saw the exciting reveal of the new Specialized SHIV TT. A bike that has had a huge overhaul from the existing model. The new Shiv is disc brake only and has a very unusual fork design. The dual crown design is said to improve stability and aerodynamics in crosswinds and the wide fork blades extend straight up from the axle.

Less radical is the Canyon Speedmax of Patrick Lange, who actually won the event. His Canyon Speedmax is the same basic frame as used by Movistar and Katusha riders, but has UCI illegal boxes and a hydration system fitted which reduce drag and make the bike more aerodynamic. He also has a custom cockpit.

There is also a new wheel out from Enve, who specialises in aero products have released the one wheel missing from their stable, a disc wheel. The SES disc took nearly 5 years to develop and we have seen Dimension Data riders using unbadged versions of these this season. It’s going to be available in disc or rim brake versions.
