In association with Oakley.
Greg LeMond is one of cycling's true innovators. He trained with a power meter, raced using tri bars and – most importantly for this video, at least – was the first professional cyclist to use Oakley glasses in the pro peloton and at races like the Tour de France.

Oakley is one of cycling's iconic brands. And, in a way, they're one of cycling's *newest* iconic brands, too, given that they made their first appearance in the peloton 30-or-so years ago thanks to Greg LeMond.
Oakley was kind enough to invite us to their legendary headquarters, Foothill Ranch, to film a couple of videos. We have a full factory and HQ tour coming up, but, let's start here, with this Retro vs Modern video. It's safe to say that a lot has changed in the 30+ years since Oakley first became a force in pro cycling. The kit, for one... We've moved from wool jerseys and bold '80s, then perhaps even bolder early-90s lycra designs to understated, cool, aero jerseys, which Oakley now make. Helmets have moved on, too. They've progressed from being near-unwearable by the majority of the peloton to be required, which means that the designs, comfort and aerodynamics have also improved immeasurably. Helmets, too, are a recent addition to Oakley's road cycling line.
And, what about the bikes?! Firstly, we have to give a huge shout out to Team Dream for loaning us their original Team Z bike from the 90s. Bikes were another area where LeMond undoubtedly innovated. He was among the first riders to use a carbon fibre road bike in racing, but, our stunning example bike is steel. Either way, it's incredibly cool. Unlike, perhaps, the wool jersey.

Thanks to Prendas Ciclismo for providing the modern version of the team kits.

We know wider tires have a lower rolling resistance for a given pressure. We know lower tire pressures are faster on rough surfaces (anything other than super smooth surfaces). But is there a downside to running wider tires on road bikes? Si & Alex have been investigating!
Let's face it, the train is getting pretty pricey these days. So we wondered, could we now get a bike cheaper than a train fare costs, and ride it to the UK's capital city of London? It sounded like the ideal challenge for Hank!
