In 1990, Shimano changed road bike gears forever with the launch of the Shimano Total Integration system or, as it's better known, STI. Combining shifters with brake levers and moving away from down tube shifters changed the ways the pros raced and made road riding a lot more comfortable, ergonomic, and a little bit faster!
