Il Lombardia was won for the second year in a row by Joaquim 'Purito' Rodriguez. He dropped the rest of the field with 10km to go, putting Alejandro Valverde, who many commenters held responsible for Purito's loss at the previous week's World Championships, into 2nd. With the win in Lombardy, Rodriguez took the WorldTour overall too, and does not need to go to the Tour of Beijing to ensure victory.

GCN, however, will be going to the Tour of Beijing. Comment and let us know what you'd like to see from us at the race!

It's a busy time of year for the cycling rumour mill. With a large number of high level teams folding, many riders who may feel they deserve a WorldTour level team have been left without, prompting lots of wage cuts and retirements. Juan Antonio Flecha has got it right, swapping the roads of Europe for the beaches of Hawaii. We wish him and all the other cyclists retiring this year well. Thanks for entertaining us over the years!

The route of the 2014 Giro d'Italia has been announced. Starting in Ireland, the Giro will feature three rest days next year. The route also pays homage to Marco Pantani and will visit the sites of many of his famous victories. The penultimate stage to Monte Zoncolan will doubtless be one to watch.

Tech of the week is Purito and trade-teammate Luca Paolini's headwear from the Worlds and tweet of the week comes from Chris Horner's recent outburst.

Enjoy!
