Dubai Tour 2018 | Stage 3 Race Report

Published on February 8th 2018

Stage 3 of the Dubai Tour showed the unpredictability of desert racing, with crosswinds splitting the bunch part way through the stage, and even leading to changes at the top of the general classification Subscribe to GCN: Register your interest in the GCN Club: Get exclusive GCN gear in the GCN shop! All of the major lead out trains lined up through the final 10km, with the Katusha team of Marcel Kittel dominating the front until they were swamped by Viviani’s Quick-Step train. But Viviani was forced to start his sprint too early and was overhauled by Mark Cavendish, who held off Nacer Bouhanni and Marcel Kittel for his first win of the season. Race leader Dylan Groenewegen was docked 20 seconds for drafting his team car when the crosswinds hit the bunch. And so Elia Viviani is the new race leader.
