This week in the world of cycling, we learned that once you’ve won Milan San Remo, the next logical step in life is to take up roller hockey… Here is newly retired Pippo Pozzato showing his skillz, with a Z. We also learned that Elia Viviani is not only one of the best sprinters in the world, he’s also like cycling’s Harry Houdini, seemingly able to fit through gaps that don’t exist.

These days, of course, every team is on carbon rims - a testament to how far carbon fiber tech has come within cycling over that time. Also in 2009, aero road helmets weren’t a thing, nor were skinsuits in road races. On top of that, 10 years ago, pedalling on your top tube wasn’t a thing, thankfully, Egan Bernal had just started high school, smart trainers meant some kind of posh Nike’s, competing meant actually pinning a number on, discs were wheels you used in time trials, bottom brackets worked, and gravel didn’t exist.
