Published on January 31st 2019

Welcome to the GCN Tech Show - this week we’ve got some Smart Rollers that I’m ultra excited about, bling shoes, new bikes from Decathlon, your upgrades, the bike vault and plenty more... Subscribe: The GCN Shop: GCN Tech Uploader: First up, great news for those of you who like rollers as Elite have released the Nero Smart Rollers. Firstly, and probably most importantly in this era, is the ability to connect them via ANT+ or Bluetooth and use software like zwift, sufferfest, my e-training. And the resistance in the rollers automatically adjusts to whatever course or session you’re riding, including gradients of upto 7% which for rollers is good! Then adding to the realistic feel is the inclusion of a flywheel in each rear roller, which means that pedalling is going to be less bouncy as they will spin with more momentum just like riding outdoors. This week we are celebrating unbreakable tech. While we love cutting edge, featherweight and super aero stuff, we have a special fondness for robust items that last seemingly forever. We're huge fans of sustainable design. Products that last, so here are are some of our favourites. This is the kind of tech you’ll want in the zombie apocalypse. The worlds best ever pedal, even if it was short lived. The Shimano SPD-r. Used by all the top track sprinters the world over, the tightest click in and out and just indestructible. Tied and Soldered Spokes in l wheels - lots of talk about them being a stiffer wheel, but actually it generally meant there was less stress on a traditional j bend style spoke where it sat in the hub shell. Alloy Bars - survive a bike being dropped or crashed and the choice of so many pros for their long life! Single speed bikes. - yes good shout. This is why they are the choice of bike couriers in new york and london. Minimal maintenance. Very few parts to go wrong. Square taper bb, a bigger chain - won’t snape too easily.
