This week in the world of cycling, we learned that hitting the tarmac is bad, but hitting barbed wire is even worse! The injuries sustained by Geoffrey Soupe of Cofidis after a crash at the Tour du Limousin last week looked very nasty indeed.

Last week a piece of research from Performance in Mind was released into exercise addiction in endurance athletes. Now I don’t know about you but when I think of addictions, this isn’t top of my list. I think of smoking, alcohol, or indeed, coffee. Of the people surveyed in the Performance in Mind research, a staggering 44.7% showed addictive behaviour towards exercise. Now, when you look closer into the results, cyclists did fair slightly better than a triathlete.

Tony Martin will next year move to Team Lotto NL Jumbo from Katusha. A good signing for them given their relatively disappointing TTT at the Tour this year. Simon Geschke from Sunweb to BMC CCC, a surprise that one as he’s been a real ally to Dumoulin the last few years, and also the fact that this is, in effect, his first ever change of professional teams. The last piece of international news is that Mikel Landa has not recovered sufficiently from his recent crash to participate at the Vuelta, which is a shame.
